It’s hot out

I’m sitting on my couch and watching the shadows outside grow big and overbearing. You can find refuge from the heat easily as the day goes on. To me it is inconsequential as my air conditioner blows with a low hum and the water drips outside as the unit struggles to keep me cool. I have the fans blowing to try and circulate the cool air. Nature and comfort now in a perpetual battle for territory. I pick up my phone check the same app I always check. I put the phone down, then immediately pick it up again to check the same app. I stare at my wall and the blinds that sway from the force of the fan like bamboo shoots in a soft wind. A small swallow flutters past my window as the leaves brush each other in the heat and the dogs yell at each other over fences and through sliding glass doors. The roar of an ambulance whirs around and around. The wind starts blowing west towards the ocean as I pick up my phone again to check the same app.
